Surrounded by history lovers at Rivertown
Antiques
It was a great day for a book
signing. The weather was gorgeous and the annual Newburgh
Summerfest Parade was a great slice of Midwest Americana.
Meanwhile, all I can think about is whether anyone will
actually come to the book signing. I wasn't ready for what
happened. It was an absolutely incredible reaction to the
opening event for Thunder
From a Clear Sky. Although a wonderful article
in the Evansville Courier had appeared the day
before, I had no idea how many people would come to
Rivertown. Honestly, I though if I could sell twenty books
I would call the event a success. Before the event began
there was a line forming at the cash register. I signed
ninety-eight books in three hours. Between greeting people,
signing books, and taking money the event was a memorable
blur. Luckily, Don Johnson was there and clicked about 100
pictures of the event. Without him a warm spot in my brain
would be the only thing left of what happened that
day.

Shaking hands at Barnes & Noble,
Evansville
After Rivertown just a week
before, I was subsumed with doubt about the turnout for the
Barnes & Noble event. Surely, everyone who wanted a
book had purchased one last week. Not so. Once again, there
was a line waiting for me when I arrived fifteen minutes
early. At one point there were a dozen people tailing
towards the in-store Starbucks waiting to get their copies
signed. Counting books that B&N took to re-stock their
shelves, eighty-seven copies of Thunder From a Clear Sky
passed through my hands in two hours.
June 22 * I receive notification
that Thunder From a Clear
Sky is the publisher's best selling title for
the week of June 13, 2005.
